Cannot upload .fit file after following Strava route - .fit file is 26MB!!

I recorded a ride today on my Edge 530 and for the first time I attempted to follow a Strava Route through Connect IQ.  The resulting .fit file after saving the ride  is ~26MB in size, as opposed to the usual 400-600KB of my other similar rides.  As a result I cannot upload this file now to Garmin or Strava and view my ride data at all.
Is there any reason the file size would be so big when following a route? and is there anyway I can strip out the route following data from my .fit file and still keep all other data - speed, power, elevation, HR, etc?
I am currently on cycling holiday in Italy and of course the ride went up Tre Cime di Lavaredo so I would be super disappointed if I cannot save and view my ride at all.
Many thanks, Grant.

without the file, no solution Slight smile

check if you can repair your file with help of FitFileRepairTool

    or

with your consent we can have a look at your file with FitFileRepairTool

zip the fit file and upload here in the forum, or provide a link to it on a cloud storage

    Thanks OnlyTwo.

Here is link to the file:

    Hope that works...

I did try FitFileTools but the max upload size is 20MB, and dont get me started on Garmin Support...  3 emails back and forward and they keep copying and pasting the same “Error Occurs When Manually Uploading Activity Data to Garmin Connect” from their FAQ’s page, without ever answering my questions!

    Cheers.

  • This is fixed in build 3.50. You are currently on build 3.20.

Sorry I need to make a correction here. It is apparently not in the next full release and not in the 3.50 release. The 3.50 went out just to address the sensor connectivity issue.

Hi @, no it is not: I have exactly the same problem after upgrading to 3.50. Do you know how to prevent this from happening?

The file is so big that in addition to the upload problem the device chokes on it if attempting to view its details n the history.

I'm also puzzled as to why the "Personal records" screen does not show anything even though I have ridden > 100km with the new unit. Is it faulty?

  • The issue is caused by a bug that can sometimes cause the TBT instructions to get repeatedly written to the activity file. This only happens when navigating and not every-time.

I was told it was fixed in the next release, but maybe that is the release that is planned for July and not the 3.50 release, which was put put just to address the sensor connectivity issue.

    Sorry for any misinformation there.

I can fix the the activity file for you if you post it somewhere like dropbox where I can access it.

Not sure about the personal records. It sounds like an issue with something in memory. It may require the unit be reset, but before that try sending you personal records from Garmin Connect to your unit.

In Garmin Connect select personal records from the menu on the left hand side and then "Send to device"
