Pause Workout - Feature Request

The inability to pause a workout without pausing the entire ride is a HUGE shortcoming of the Edge 530.  On a stationary trainer, sure, we can all follow a workout exactly as prescribed.  In the real world we have to deal with stop lights, varying terrain, wind, and other variables that necessitate the ability to be flexible.

Wahoo NAILED this with their Elemnt units with a pause, skip forward, or skip backward option right on the workout screen.  With the Garmin Edge 530 (and 830, I'm assuming) this renders the workout feature basically useless for me.

Would anyone else like to see this come to the Edge 530/830?

  • Yes!  I actually just posted this question in the 830 forum, thinking it was a programming bug.  I did my first planned workout with my 830 yesterday and couldn't understand why the timer kept going when I had to stop at an intersection.

It is silly that the Auto Pause does not function the same during a workout as when not following a workout.  If I wanted the timer NOT to pause when stopping, I can easily set the Auto Pause to OFF.  Why disable this feature when following a workout?

  • Also I saw a reply to this same question in the 520 forum from three years ago stating it was by design, so I doubt Garmin is going to change it if they haven't already.

  • Please please please add this feature.

Let's hope for more focus on outdoor workouts now that Trainerroad has also joined the party.

  • Garmin, please add this basic function.

  • Workouts really are barely usable outside

  • I'd like to see this implemented, but I'm not keeping any hopes. The only thing I've been able to do is to manually pause the ride.

    * Why on earth doesn't it autopause when I have this feature enabled if I'm doing a workout?

    * Why can I still not pause, go fwd or back in a workout while I'm doing it?

    * Why can I only create workouts in GC using absolute watt values and not %FTP?? (sorry, separate rant)

I've never been able to use the workouts feature in my Garmin devices, and I go back to the Edge 305 days. Only now with a 350 can I use it sometimes, relying on pausing the ride when I have to pause a workout

  • Garmin, I also would be interested in to have this functionality. When I was on Wahoo Elemnt that was very easy to pause, step backward and step forward the current workout. As far as I know none of ANY Garmin product can do that. This IS a bike computer not only used to record weekend ride to a city park and coffee.

We all do workouts not only on turbo trainers and we would to have ability to pause and do step back and step forth the workouts. It is a must have in such devices like Edge line.

    Thaks for that :)

  • The Forerunner 935 has the same limitation when doing outdoor running structured workouts. So this problem goes beyond just Edge devices. Auto Pause doesn't work so I have to manually press the Start-Stop button when waiting to cross a street.

  • I absolutely agree with y'all guys.

I also come from a wahoo unit and workout feature is the one I miss the most:

    • Pause workout
    • Skip backwards/forward
    • Set 2 target values for structured workouts (PWR+CAD or HR+CAD)

I don't know why Garmin is taking so long to implement this features...

  • Totally agree with the lack of %FTP for creating workouts in GC. The implementation is not made by/for people using indoor workouts.

Please garmin let us create intervalls by %FTP. The provided Zones are way to coarse!
