Route color

I know this is not going anywhere (because Garmin has always had magenta for the route) - but can't we have a really strong single bright color for a route and the rest of the roads to be black/white? Say the route to be bright green and all other roads in black? It can be quite a struggle to tell the difference between the route's magenta and the other red colored roads around it.

When you're riding and have sunglasses the sunglasses reduce the screen's brightness and colors also so makes it so much harder to read the screen.

  • Yes, at least being able to select a colour. How about a line pattern?

My preference is not use turn by turn and instead display the course on the map under course settings and choose light green for the line colour, which I find stands out well.

This is my preference on the Edge 800 too - but on the 1030 the bright, thick, green or yellow route lines changed to really pale, muted colours and looked like they were only 1 pixel thick! I found it impossible to see them at night, Is this any better on the 830?

  • we can select any color we want from the menu - it's awesome. AS LONG AS YOU WANT MAGENTA

Was sunny today - so i rode and i wore sunnies (which made the colors differentiation even worse) and I couldn't differentiate between the 'Magenta' color and the other red colored road/paths. Lucky i was riding on a familiar path - imagine if i had to do it with other riders on an exploratory ride.....i'll be laughed at as i struggle to navigate with my AUD$450 device.

Does Mr. Garmin and the coder (person responsible for coding this GPS) ever ride outside of their carparks?

I am beginning to see merits in the other competitor product - where there's less color but it's used cleverly.

  • I am not sure if this is what you meant, but on your E530 if you go to Navigation > Courses > Here you select an existing course > Settings > Color, you can select what color you want your edge to display the course in.

  • This is only if you want the course displayed on the map permanent. It unfortunately  does not change the colour if you use the same course for navigation.

I have the 520 Plus but the problem is the same. Is there a way to have the base map NOT show a color for busy roads? It would be so much easier to have the Magenta line be only the one you are navigating. Even if I use "always on" with a route and pick green it's still hard to see the skinny green line.  I'd like to make it thicker and clear out other colors. Following a breadcrumb on my old Edge 130 with no base map at all was easier.

  • I want google maps on my device

    Google probably doesn’t.
