Strava Live Segment goal settings randomly revert to Auto Select. Very frustrating, please provide a global setting!

I have figured out how to change the goal in my Strava Live Segments by going into each segment and manually selecting "PR" as my goal.

I am not, and never will be interested in beating the person I follow who is in front of me, and even worse, I don't care about my most "Recent Best".

There are one or two that I am targeting the KOM,

Yesterday, on several segments that I had previously set my goal a "PR", the screen came up with either a persons name or "Recent Best".

There should be a default setting which allows the user to choose which goal should come up. Them, the user could go into an individual segment to change the goal if he/she wants to.

And this setting should stick, not randomly change to another goal.

Why does the 530 randomly change the goal, even after I set it?

Also, to stop a current segment (sometimes I like to do this if there is a second segment that starts after the one that I am on) requires six button pushes. On my 820 I only had to push two.

Garmin, please fix these annoying issues!

Otherwise, the 530 is great!

  • Yes, GARMIN, PLEASE, do something ! auto select is the hell !! Its no sence ! its taking my last time there everytime...I just dont care  my last time ! Give me the choise ! Global Choice ! My PR, KOM, and like on my previous 520 : my friend up to me

    at least do that !

Do something for us, spending way too much $/£/€ for you !

  • I wonder if the issue is associated with updates to the leader board. For the segments that are not reporting the goal time correctly check when the leaderboard data was last updated. Compare that to the date of a segment that is working correctly.

Training -> Strava Live Segments -> Segment name -> leaderboard

Have you tried toggling the auto-selection option back on then off again to see if it resets those segments that are not working correctly?

  • Garmin PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!

This may be the absolute worst feature ever programmed into a device.

I can't get many of my segments to keep my desired goal, and worse there is no pattern as to which stick & which go to some random goal.

After a little searching, I see that there are a lot of Edge users who want to set a goal and keep it.

Why hasn't this been taken care of yet?

    When will it be corrected?

  • I second this. Why on earth would I need to know my recent time on a segment when my last recent ride might have been an easy one? This is ridiculous.

Give us a global default setting for each segment.

  •   Do you if there is a fix in progress for this issue? This is a real drawback for me & many others. In six weeks, I've got an event where I absolutely have to be able to follow my PR on a segment that will take me over an hour. My 820 did not have this problem, I can't understand why my 530 does.  Thank you

  • We are looking into this and I will provide an update when I have one available. I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Thank you. I have noticed that when I go in a manually set my goal, there is a small blue line next to that goal. But, on some segments, the desired goal is at the top of the list. On others, it is down the list. I will check to see if the incorrect segment goals are at the top of the list.

  • I've spent some time looking into this and the issue is not related to auto-select and is not random, but it may look that way.

This issue is due to some changes in the way Strava is delivering leaderboard data.

Historically Garmin was using  the leaderboard order as provided by Strava. This placed "Goal" first.

Overtime Strava has added additional entries to the leaderboard.

It used to just be just the following entries in the order shown

    Goal
    Rival
    PR
    KoM/QoM

Now it also includes, Recent, Latest and Carrot.

This has resulted in the Goal no longer be the first entry in the leaderboard order, it is preceded by Recent and Latest.

I'm guessing Garmin will need to write a leaderboard sorting algorithm and no longer accept the data as directly provided by Strava.

  • Some of my segments list my desired goal (mostly PR). Others list another random goal. When I change to my desired goal, a thin vertical blue line appears next to the goal and a notice comes up that says what my new goal is.

  • I doubt that it’s a Strava problem, unless it coincided with the first time I used my 530. It didn’t happen with my 820 which I used until just before my 530.

Furthermore, I don’t have this problem with my FR935.

    It’s a 530 problem.

    Thanks,

    Peter
