Can 530 show topo maps with shaded relief ?

I've installed OpenStreetMap Topo, and another map as well (i can see them as nice Topo in BaseCamp), enabled them for my Activity Profiles, but can't see nice colours (shaded relief)

so the question is, can 530 do that? (or maybe it's his limitation)

I've also put file with contours - so i can see isolines.

Can 530 print shaded relief ?

  • I've got shading enabled on the supplied Garmin maps. I don't have my device in front of me so cannot remember the exact path but I think it's under Navigation - Map - Map Visibility - 'show shading when available'

Within the map options you will need to change the 'shaded relief' option from auto to 'on'.  There are several map files to disable / enable included on the unit.  One of them contains elevation details.  So you can turn off the street maps and leave the other system maps enabled - as long as the elevation map is still on you will get the shaded relief, including if you use topo maps.   I have done this with the topo maps from gpsfiledepot.  I also do it with the built in Garmin maps while riding in the mountains.  It can make some crowded maps a bit harder to read, so it sort of depends on where I'm going weather I use it or not.

  • it works !  thanks !! a bit hidden option :)
