Edge 530 - How to install the Tether?

I upgraded from 520 to 530 and strugle to mount the Tether (Befestigungsband)

There is a hole close to the USB but only one instead of the small bar (two holes) on the 520 that worked perfect for me. Should I sling it around the USB cap? I currently do but not sure the cap can handle this on the long run and it does not seem to close fully after I do so.

There is also a small screw behind the cap. Should I use that one to fasten the tether?

It might be obvious but I do not get it... so any hint on what is the recommended method (have not found anyting in the manul)

Thx

Michael

  • Open up the USB port cover. You feed the smaller loop end of the tether up through the whole from the underside of the unit. Then feed the longer loop of the tether through the small loop of the tether.

  • Really works. THX aweatherall.

I did not try that as I thought the smaller loop is then in the same hole as the USB cap which would prevent proper closure. But it does work as they seem to have left some "space":.

As thought it's so simple after you know how.

  • Does this mean the usb port is not waterproof?

  • There is a hole in it so I would guess it isn't waterproof, but rain will drip down and away from it so I don't think it will be a problem unless you crash into a large puddle and submerge it. Which can happen in MTBing LOL but *** happens eh? :)

  • The USB port behind the dust cover is water resistant to IPX 7, but the dust cover does not provide a water tight seal.

  • There is no requirement to lift up the USB cover or remove it. Threading the Tether through here is unsafe and could allow water ingress.

Looking toward the rear of the unit there is a small hole and recess to the right hand side of the rubber USB cover. I found it easiest to thread the 'finer' end of the Tether down through the unit. Pass the remaining tether through the small loop and pull snugly to secure it. It is a little bit tricky and needs a steady hand.
