Heat and Altitude Acclimatization feature

Where do I see the Heat and Altitude Acclimatization feature ? Last sunday I received a note about the Heat acclimatization but I cannot find it anywhere on de 530 or on the Garmin Connect

  • me neither...nobody has an idea?

  • The heat acclimation only displays after an outdoor ride. There is no standalone menu point as far as I know.

  • It isn't working correctly on mine, and I can't find a place to look at it either. Yesterday afternoon I completed an hour ride(pretty easy effort) and it told me I had 3% heat acclimation. It is only supposed to be a thing when you do an activity and the temperature is above 80deg F. Garmin Connect shows the temp as 75deg F at the time of the activity. I did a run workout as soon as I got home and my FR 945 did not trigger heat acclimation at all.

This morning I rode into work(20 min ride) and it showed I was now suddenly 9% acclimated. Connect shows it at 57deg F during the activity. Obviously something is wrong with the heat acclimation feature on the 530 as it should not even be triggered at those temps.

  • For heat acclimatization it uses the weather data provided via Garmin Connect Mobile and not the temperature data from the Edge. This is because the calculation also uses humidity.

It could be that the weather station that GCM is using is not that close to you.

  • That's what I said though. When looking at the activity after the fact, you can see that the temperature that GCM thought I was using was well below the threshold that should have triggered the heat acclimation feature. Unless GCM is using a weather station at least a state away, i'm not really sure how it would have found a temperature above 80 degrees at 6am right now(I'm in northern Oregon). The activity in Garmin Connect after the fact showed 57 degrees F, which was accurate.

  • The Garmin Connect data comes from the Edge's temperature gauge and is not the data that GCM supplied.

  • That is absolutely not true. The plotted data and Min/Max temperature data that you can view within an activity are recorded from the unit. The temperature/conditions/wind speed that is displayed in the upper right hand corner on the map is the data that it got from GCM weather station for your activity. None of the temperatures, either from the Edge or from the GCM weather station for that activity, were high enough to have triggered Heat Acclimation according to the parameters that Garmin and FirstBeat have given us.

  • Menu -> My Stats -> Training Status "widget" with the Productive/VO2 Max/Training Load info (press Enter on it) -> scroll down to the bottom

That's where I see my Heat Acclimation status. The Altitude is not there for me, so I assume the Heat is not there either if it's 0%.

I don't think it's in the Garmin Connect app/web part for now, but at least you can find it on the Edge this way.

  • it does seem random tbh. It would be good to see the heat and altitude affects on the activity or at least in Garmin connect.

Yesterday I did 140k, about 60k above 900m altitude. It. was also a hot day 32°C by midday when I was 2000m high. But after the ride it only gave me a heat acclimatisation alert of 92%. Nothing about altitude.

Last week I got a lift up to a similar height, freewheeled for an hour and it gave me an alert saying I was 40% acclimatised to altitude?!
