I got my MTB bundle last night and the Edge remote was NOT paired already. I was able to power it on and pair my remote with no issues, but it was not paired out of the box. The Speed sensor WAS already paired with the head unit.
Hi Garmin: I bought me Garmin Edge 530 MTB bundle a month ago and have had the same problem. The remote appears as a sensor but will not connect once I select it? A small dashed circle appears in the upper right column of the 530 and spins until it times out. Any suggestions on how to resolve?
Hi Garmin: I have had the same problem. I bought the Edge 530 Mtb bundle a month ago and it has never connected successfully. The edge remote appears as a device I can connect. However, it does not connect when I select it. Indeed, a small dashed circle spins in the upper right corner of the 530 screen. It keeps going in circles until it ultimately beeps and fails to connect after several minutes. Any guidance on how to resolve.

Hi, I found the solution. After selecting the remote control (v in box) you need to push the 'up' button and then select 'add sensor'. Now it works...
THIS is what I'd needed to know. Thanks Simon V!
