Edge 530 stopped collecting ANT+/BLE data in the middle of a ride

It happened during my 20-mile ride today after I made a brief stop. The device was never turned off during the brief stop. I only realized what was happening about 2 miles later when I noticed the power data was stuck at 50W and there was no change in my HR. A hard power off and on reset it and it then recognized all the paired devices. During the "freeze", it was still collecting GPS and temperature data. Only data from external devices connected via ANT+ and BLE were not collected.

I did a 30-mile ride yesterday with the exact same sensors but all of them connected via ANT+. No issue. It's just one ride but I think if I can get at least 5 more rides in without any issue, I will be comfortable enough to say it's BLE related.

Happened again to me today after a 15 minute stop. Lost all Ant+ sensors and the unit froze trying to power it off. I had to hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a reset. It recovered fine and thankfully it kept the first part of the ride.

Were you connected via Garmin Connect on your phone during these issues?

Just Ant+ power and heart rate.

Well there goes my theory of BLE sensors being the cause of this issue.

After chatting with Garmin support the second time regarding this issue, I was told to return my Edge 530 for an exchange.

I would be quite surprised to hear this goes away with new hardware.

Did you elect to have them send you a second unit by securing it on your credit card?

I would be quite interested to hear the results of your testing of both devices.

I imagine/hope new firmware is right around the corner.

Like you, I am skeptical that a device replacement would resolve this issue. But that's what the Garmin engineering team instructed the support personnel to do.

I chose the immediate ship option again as I have a few bike races in the upcoming days.

I don't know if I'll be able to test both devices simultaneously since BLE only allows one connection per device, that is, I won't be able to pair the same sensor to both Edge 530 bike computers at the same time.

Sorry, what I meant by the testing is to hear if the results of the new unit match or differ from the prior history of the old unit, not testing them at the same time.

I have sent my error files to [email protected] and am awaiting more info. I really wish I could test a beta firmware.
