Edge 520 and text alerts

Call and Texts alert

Hi,
switched from Garmin 500 to 520 to get Call notifications and Maps.
I'm not lucky how Call notification works:
- sound alert is only when tones are enabled (as I don't like button sound feedback, would like to see seperate menu in settings - "Alert tones". Button feedback sound is much louder than incoming call sound notification which is truly wrong)
- notification is indicated only for 5 seconds and no any indicator/icon after that if you have a missed call (would like to see notification while incoming call is rinning and indicator after that, or permanent notification where you should react with enter button like it is implemented in courses when you are off course. Second option: under datafield settings add datafield "Missed calls and texts" where we can see number of missed calls and number of unread messages).

As I'm riding in urban environment I'm usally do not see incoming call because watching traffic on streets and don't hear ring and vibro call, as phone are in bag.
Otherwise for me (and I hope for others) this function is not usable at all. I can't time to time press enter button to check if I have some missed call - this is not a smart notication! :) That is unsmart clicking!

P.S. I have Android 5 phone Sony Experia Z3 compact. Sometimes txt message notification not shown as well.

I didn´t recieve any notifications on my Edge 520. Couple of minutes ago i made a test and connected my 920XT beside the Edge 520 with my phone (Huawei P6 Android 4.4.2).

The notifications only appear on the 920XT.... I made some photos of my settings...

I have a ticket open with Garmin Support and some of this may assist us...The first part is a given...the second part head us into the "hey that fixed it" territory.

Please check on your Garmin Connect Mobile app and make sure that the notifications you want to see are enabled.
1. Open the Garmin Connect Mobile app
2. Touch the Menu (3 horizontal bars)
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch Smart Notifications
On this screen, make sure that you have each notification that you want to get enabled here, if it is not enabled, it will be white/light colored, if enabled, it should be colored (mine is green).

You may also want to check the settings on your phone. When your compatible Garmin device is paired with a smartphone, text messages can be viewed directly on the device. The level of message detail will be based on the smartphone or message app settings. If you are not able to view the full text message, you will need to adjust the settings.

With the variety of smartphones, messaging applications and operating systems, the procedure for changing this setting is not standard. The following steps are general only, for specific instructions for your smartphone, please consult your owner's manual, phone manufacturer or carrier:
Messaging application settings:

1. Open your messaging application
2. Select the menu
3. Select Settings
4. Select Notifications (some phones skip this step)
5. Locate and enable Preview or Preview message
6. Enable Preview
Phone settings:
1. Go to phone settings
2. Locate notification settings (sometimes Sound & Notifications)
3. Locate Notifications heading
4. Check the Device Lock settings, they may be set to show, hide etc.

Have been having the same problem

Have both a Fenix 2 and Edge 25 and text alerts work great on those but not my new Garmin 520. On both those devices all you have to do is turn them on and it works. With the 520 if I turn Bluetooth on the Bluetooth icon flashes despite my iphone 6s saying it is connected.

I go for a ride and the ride gets updated to connect so Bluetooth is working.

To get the bluetooth icon to stop flashing I have to go into the connect app on the phone and now the Bluetooth icon on the 520 stops flashing.

Then if I go into settings...Bluetooth...pair smartphone...(despite the fact it is already paired) it shows Call and Text alerts availalble. But nothing works.

Usually I wait for a couple of firmware updates and this is the only problem I am having so far (live strava is working great) so hopefully there is a fix or improvement coming. Make it as automatic as the 25.

Anyone see this?

I cannot get this to work. I am using Android.

yep, i have it paired with a galaxy S5, i get notifications of incoming calls and messages, i can then press enter and read the message.

got it working

I tried unpairing and repairing several times....tried it on the phone.....then unpairing and pairing on the 520....still no dice.

this is what worked...once everything was repaired....I turned bluetooth off on the 520....then back on....now both texts and call notifications pop up on the 520.

Toggling bluetooth on the phone did not work.

having issues with this as well. I'm connected (and have forgotten and reconnected) to BTE_Edge_520 and BT_Edge_520. have opened the garmin connect, forgotten the devices, reconnected them and still nothing shows up when I get a text on my phone.

I have a iPhone 6 Plus and I just cannot get notification window to show up on my Garmin Edge 520. Anyone else have a similar configuration to me?

So I have an iPhone with the latest firmware. I tried the following steps:

I unpaired my phone and turned the 520 off
I erased Garmin Connect from my iPhone and re-installed
I re-paired my Garmin 920xt (where notifications have and do work perfectly) and my 520
The 520 is connected because the following happens:
a) I see the phone is connected on both GC and 520
b) Weather data is visible which means devices are talking
c) My ride data updates automatically and seamlessly (this works amazing btw)
However, it is impossible for me to see any sort of notification on the 520. Something is clearly up as it.

Seems I got it to work. Once I connected. I had to chose phone once again in bluetooth list. So first to pair and then to turn notifications. Now it works fine. Not sure if its in the instructions or not but what a weird set up routine.

Fairly consistent with what I encountered. Unfortunately....it stopped working again. The texts and missed calls show up in the log...just not in real time. May try rebooting my phone and see if that helps.

I am pretty sure this is buggy code on the 520....I would like Garmin to acknowledge it so they can track it down and eventually fix it.
