my new one edge 520 plus does not connect to windows 10 PC as mass storage device

Hi there,

I can see the device in Device Manager -> User-PC > Disk Drives -> Garmin Edge 5xx Flash USB Device. But no disk available in File Explorer, so I cannot work with files on the device.

It is only charging.

firmware version: 5.10

I tried couple of cables, including one from Garmin package.

Tried all appropriate actions from https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=PsxSBlFqTL57tN38aI6m29

Tried to download and install Garmin USB drivers from https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591#Instruct. My Windows 10 says that is not compatible with 64 bit OS version.

Tried factory reset as well.

Other devices including Garmin Edge 800 work like a charm with my PC

Please help, I need maps and routes on my device

You did the "force to mass storage" as mentioned by aweatherall?

Force to Mass Storage:

Power the device off
Press and hold the lap button while plugging into USB
Wait 10 to 15 seconds and device should go to mass storage

aweatherall is the resident expert. If no response to this thread, might need to contact Garmin support.

If the unit mounts, but shows as a blank device you could try reformation it using a Windows machine. Switch off the quick format option and use FAT32 as the format.

After formatting it the Edge should rebuild the file system after you disconnect it from the PC.

No any blank drives can be observed. I only can see it in Device Manager (and it shows: "device working properly"). No format options available. So, from my perspective - the unit is mounted, recognized by Win10 as a disk drive, but not available and no additional drives displayed (as usual with any mass storage)

I wonder if it is due to a security feature or anti-virus program that is preventing the device from fully mounting?

it would be a good point if my old edge 800 not connected as well as other USB devices but they do.

Sorry I'm out of ideas. I would suggest reaching out to Garmin Support and see if they can help.
