Strava live segments - leaderboard default selection / goal

Hi - I have live segments working (unlike many it seems!). I understand how to change the 'leaderboard' of each individual segment, but is there a way to change the default so that the goal / leaderboard for ALL live segments is the KOM time, rather than my PR, or something else? I can do a multiple edit, but this is just to bulk enable / disable, not edit!

When I am riding and come up to a segment, it says whether I am in front or behind, but I have no idea what I am being compared against.. (it doesn't indicate on the screen at any point, unless I missed something? (possibly!)).

Help appreciated, thanks.
  • I'm sure it's been mentioned that the order is Goal, Rival, PR, KoM, so the simple solution is to set goal times in Strava (this is what I do). Then that becomes your target time on the 520.

You can then manage this through Strava instead of having to press buttons on the 520.

    Simples!

I think if you set a goal time, strava will make it with an average speed to this goal time. Much more interesting is set the goal a real time because of that. Nobody goes in a climb at the same speed in a 6% or in a 15%, with this system, I think it will be. The good thing of strava segments is that is real the instant time the rider was at this point of route, no an average speed . Sorry for my bad English.

    PR's on Live Segments

C'mon Garmin. You know the people want it.
On live segments who wants to know what the KOM is doing when I am number 2347 on the segment?
I don't have any friends to compare myself to.
I just want to know what I can do on this segment. i want to know how I can get faster.
Please give us some sort of default to make our own PR's show up as the time to beat on live segments.
If you think about a 50km ride, there may be 50 live segments that you would need to manually change to your own PR.
This is a time waster. Who has the time/ energy/ will power to do all that 50 times.
    Please help us out Garmin.
  • Just wanted to plus 1 this feature request. It is blowing my mind that I have to manually edit or set and keep track of segment goals for each, individual segment instead of using a global option to utilize my PRs. Seems like a massive oversight.

Brand new to live segments but also joining the chorus of wanting to view my PR for the segments. That is all I really care about. I don't set goals on Strava so it defaults to my rival, which I don't really care about. Why even have a hierarchy between rival vs PR? The only way you wouldn't have a rival is if you didn't follow anyone on Strava.

And the idea of setting a goal on Strava that matches all your PR's is not exactly a solution because you can't set goals on downhill segments. Not to mention a pain.

But considering how long this thread has been going on it seems this is lost cause. I agree though that this really makes live segments much less useful. I'm no pro so I'm only competing against myself.
  • Just bought a 520 for Live Segments and a paid Strava account, only to find it doesn't show my own PR - Wasted my money :(

I feel exactly the same way. I came from a Lezyne Micro GPS C which I really liked and defaulted to my PR. I really liked the screenshots of Live Segments from the Edge 520 since it gave more info so I decided to step up. Now I can't believe that Garmin expects me to go into each of my 50+ segments one by one and set it manually. That's ridiculous. The Lezyne let you set your data fields on a PC also, something I totally expected the Garmin to do. WTF? You really can't have it all...
  • Just display both KOM and PR on the same screen as shown below! 520 is behind the cheaper 130 in this regard. 520 Plus has it too. I believe Garmin is just too lazy to update 520 f/w. 130 also has the plot of elevation profile that 520 lacks. Com'on Garmin!

I did the same and i i'm finding out all this...... this is ridiculus. And also true up is not working... I think i will return it.
  • absolutely agree, we should be able to set the default in the settings, not Garmin decide that it is 1. Goal, 2. Rival, 3. PR, 4. KoM/QoM
I set goals in strava to each of my starred segment so that I don't have to change them one by one on the watch but it's still all over the place, some used the goal, some used the CR and many of them used the rival time, so even that logic doesn't work! This is rubbish, the whole point of live segments is to race against a target time but if the watch uses random target times how do we know what are we racing against? I don't want to spend hours to review all my segments regularly!
