Update 2.70

Third time's the charm? Firmware 2.70 was released today.

2.70 has for me fixed both the setting saving on device problems (and I don't have to use GC, I reset the device manually to test this) AND my speed/cadence connection issues.

I did have trouble getting my device to update from 2.6 to 2.7. Garmin Express would claim that my device had already been updated, even though the Edge 25 didn't display a "software update ready to install" screen through several reboots. In the end, I connected it to my laptop, which is a mac, and that installed the update correctly. Hopefully this is something specific to my desktop PC and not more widespread.

But you know what? All is (mostly) forgiven, as my device finally works as well as it did when I bought it.

Best of luck to everyone else, please post your experiences.
  • Is Edge 25 fully charged (could have lost its charge between Sept 20 and Oct 3)?
Can you connect it to your PC and can you read the mass storage memory?
Is it getting a satellite fix (receiving GPS signals)? If so, is time correct?

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

I totally forgot to tell that the status of the unit:

    Around 75% charge
Can be read as mass storage
Can upload ride to Garmin Connect via the provided cable.
    Can lock on GPS satellite
Time is displayed correctly ( 3 times reset and 3 times re-install firmware)

Still cannot communicate or pair with ant+ device (which have fresh batteries)
    Still cannot communicate with Bluetooth
  • Hi there,

For me, a few days back, I had not used it with sensors for a few days only... and it did took some tinkering with the sensors for the edge to recognize them again.

    Stealth update

I just got pushed an update that didn't come with a version number update. Perhaps a new GPS firmware?

I'm still on v. 2.70 after installing the update on the Edge 25. It's GPS v. 3.00, but I don't remember what that version number was before. Anybody?

    Odd

Odd. I don't see 2.90, and I instead got an update on my Edge 25 without a version number. It now says I'm up to date at Version 2.70.

Well, no big deal. I don't really know why I wanted to update before given my experiences thus far with device breaking firmware releases... I mean, the reality is I'm holding out hope for HR as a user configurable field, but I don't need it that bad. Everything is working as it should for me. Thanks for the reply!
  • couple details to get done

nobody is missing the 'current lap time' field but me ??? I can't believe it, I ride mtb offroad and mark my own laps, I'd appreciate the current lap time field a lot, I am also used to save my ride by passing final check point on my ride, it's a bit tricky (not one button touch) with edge25, used to have edge810 before where start/stop button did this, and finally ...remaining battery life should be in %, the very basic battery icon with diminishing bar is just not enough.

so far I am satisfied user and I like the edge25 a lot, the most important improvement for me is to add the current lap time field...for field options

I am using Garmin for mtb since 2007 (edge 705, later edge 810, now edge25 bought as preorder in July via e-shop)

    New Edge 25 - v2.50 to v2.70

    Hello all,

I just received my Edge 25 tonight. It had v2.50 and did not save settings. After v2.70 upgrade the settings save after disconnecting from the laptop and cycling the power.

However, it timed out and turned off while I was trying to get a video loaded in front of my bike on a trainer. After power up, it lost all settings again and needed both cadence sensor and phone re-paired.

It did record and upload the indoor ride. But I am a bit disappointed that it did not calculate calories burned or even have a line to report them on the indoor ride activity. I entered my pace range, weight, and duration on the calculator at bicycling.com and got an estimate. You would think Garmin Connect could do the same with a formula that substitutes RPM for pace if a speed sensor or GPS distance is not available.

I am not pleased with the setting changes made on the Edge 25 requiring a redo on every power off cycle. I "purchased" the unit from United Airlines with my flight miles, so returning is likely out of the question.

I love my Forerunner 25 and thought this would be similarly great.

Will continue to try to use and test on an outdoor ride as soon as the rain stops here.

Please advise, since others are posting that v2.70 fixed this problem.
