I just bought a new Edge 1050, did the basic setup, connected to WiFi, then went into the Map Manager and it suggested I apply some updates to the existing maps. The base map update worked fine, but then when I tried to update the "TopoActive Australia and New Zealand" map I ran into trouble. Here's what happens:
- The download starts and takes about 15 minutes to reach 95%
- Then the following popup message appears on the lower half of the screen: "Transfer in Progress. Waiting for the current Wi-Fi transfer to finish." I can still see the download progress behind this message stuck at "95% Est Time: 0:25" but nothing was downloading.
- After waiting for about 15 minutes with nothing changing I clicked the X to remove the popup message and then it revealed the "Install Update" button.
- I click this button and get prompted with: "Install Maps? This may take several minutes to complete. The device will not be usable during the update".
- I click the tick to confirm and it takes about 5 minutes before displaying the message "Map Update Failed - Error Code: 0"
This same sequence of events happens when I try to update any of the existing TopoActive maps, and also when I try to install a new TopoActive map.
I then switched to Garman Express on a Windows PC and tried to update the maps there. This also fails but in a different way:
- I select the device and it performs a sync
- I click on Manage Maps
- I select an existing map to update and click through the confirmation messages to begin the update
- A progress bar moves to 50% and then stops (always at 50%).
- The following message is displayed: "Some changes not applied" with a Retry or Close button.
- "Retry" instantly displays the same message, Close quits the update.
This same sequence happens for all TopoActive maps (updates and/or install).
I have tried the following with no success:
- All 3 reset options using the system menu
- Tried a different WiFi connection (mobile hotspot)
- Used Garmin Express to successfully update the same TopoActive map on my ForeRunner 970 which indicates the problem is not with the PC or Wifi connection.
- Tried deleting files from the 1050 in the following folders; Maps, SID, SQL internal & UpdateManager then reinstalling maps from scratch. The reinstall worked for the base map but not for any of the TopoActive maps. I had to recover the original maps from a backup I took before trying this.
So I am all out of ideas - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
