Garmin Edge 1050 can only Auto Lap at one GPS Location rather than at all Course Markers. Why this limitation?

For decades, Garmin has chosen not to provide functionality to have Auto Lap at Course Markers on any Course. You can only have Auto Lap at one GPS Location. Does anyone know why such a rediculous restriction has persisted for more than 20 years?

It's probably because a 'lap' is usually defined as once around a course. 
 Seriously, though, it does look as though you can have as many lap points as you like:
