I want to turn the bell off as when I am riding I sometimes catch it with tthe towel - andit wakes my dog up.

Assuming you are using this indoors on a trainer? If so, seems like a super easy tweak by garmin software engineering to turn off the bell feature when using the indoor profile. Unless people use it to signal their partner for food orders.
