First, I want to say I've really enjoyed my Edge 1050 since I got it this summer. I see a lot of issues on this forum, and I haven't run into any of these complaints.
My only complaint was realizing the Edge wouldn't connect to the Schwinn ic4 bike. I did a lot of research on the ic4 bike's ability to connect to Garmin, but once I made the purchase, I realized those websites were all dated, and in fact, it had been a couple of years since Garmin allowed the Edge to connect. My workaround was to try some indoor training apps, starting with Rouvy. After a week or 10 workouts or so, Connect started to receive all of the power data from the ic4 bike via Rouvy. This was exciting and encouraging. However, Connect doesn't count these miles since they're not from a Garmin device. At least I see my effort and can improve.
Fast forward to 29.22, the Edge would always find the ic4 bike, and it would detect it as a power sensor, but would not actually connect or stay connected. I downloaded the 29.22 update and was excited to find that the Edge detected the ic4 now as a trainer, and once connected it even knows it as ic4 bike. After only a couple of tries, the Edge was seeing cadence, speed, and power, and STAYING CONNECTED. So I made my first ride for one of the main reasons of buying an Edge.
Yesterday I went for my second ride, hoping to follow the suggested training on the Edge, and it took 3 hours to finally get the ic4 bike to stay connected to my Edge. After my ride, I tried to replicate having the two devices to connect and stay connected, and I couldn't do it. Hopefully, today it won't take another 3 hours. I know the ic4 will only connect to one device over BTE, so I've made sure to remove it from my iPad, phone, etc. However, I'm starting to question if it's not my Edge dropping the connection. Really hoping Garmin doesn't send an update that breaks the improvement. Or it's the first step to put external devices, non-Garmin devices behind a pay wall.
