This just doesnt work.. 98% of the time it just shows the Hazard-Home-Bell screen.. Not sure how this even passed Alpha testing..

Agree with the above it doesn’t work all the time. I like the idea and I am sure it worked better when first introduced in Beta version.
It might be where you are taping, or possibly the tap speed. I've not had any issues. Try taping a little higher up the screen to avoid the 3 icons in the overlay if you do bring those up. If they are coming up it sounds like the double tap is too slow.
Same here. I tried this function this morning and it didn´t work most of the time.
Taking your advice I tested it on a screen where I have no icons just one large map but it’s the same on other screens. It’s very temperamental it works fine then decides to miss behave as described no matter where you tap on the screen. As I mentioned it appeared to work ok in the Beta version.
in my case all works like a charm. Any screen, any layout Fw. tested: latest stable 29.xx (don't remember exactly version) and current latest beta. In any case the screen with Hazard, Bell, Home popups for short time and auto hides after double-tap
Interesting I ended up doing a reset holding power button for 10sec. After device restarted bell now works as it used to all ok
Bad news is after a day or so it went back to being intermittent doesn’t matter where you tap. Tends to work when you don’t need it and not when you do .
I was trying this on ride today. It would work sometime but not others. I use 2 custom data fields, WinField and Edge MapFields. The bell doesn’t work if the double tap is within one of the these custom fields. The custom fields seem to be consuming the double tap and not letting it through to the base firmware to ring the bell.

Yes! When the custom data field is enabled for touch functions, the touches do not leave the data field. The same applies to the overlay menu with the “Bell,” “Home,” and “ Hazard” buttons. You cannot access them.
BUT: These data fields do not support double-tapping. Garmin could therefore supplement/modify its IQ SDK to let double-tapping through.
I have raised a ticket:
for modern Edge devices - double tap on IQ datafields do not ring the bell
mcinner1 thanks for opening the ticket. I will follow that to see what happens.
