Connect IQ not working

I sure hope I'm just overlooking something. I'm upgrading from an Edge 530. The Connect IQ data fields installation was pretty straightforward on that. The data fields were available under Connect IQ when editing the data fields on the screen.

I've tried to download some data fields to my 1050 from the Connect IQ store and they show then blue install button, then show installing..., then it goes back to the blue install button. When I look at the device in the Connect IQ app it shows the data fields as not installed. On the 1050 itself there is no Connect IQ to select under data fields.

I don't know why I expected better from Garmin. It shouldn't be this hard to install something on a $700 device.

So, what do I do to fix this?

The 1050 has the latest update as of this morning. I deleted both my Garmin Connect and Connect IQ apps from my phone and reinstalled them. Both apps show that the 1050 is connected. I've restarted my phone and the 1050 a couple times now.

  • Are you talking about installing IQ datafields using the mobile app Garmin Connect IQ - and mobile IQ app makes the problem?

  • Yes. I was.

I worked with garmin support chat and just as I was about to send them a screen recording of it not working, it started working. he attributed it to initial setup delays...

  • The GC-IQ mobile app is very unreliable. In particular, updating the installed data fields often ends with a permanent “waiting in queue” message. I have found a solution for myself by doing the following when the app goes haywire:

    Turn off the Edge.
Close the GC IQ app on your phone (see links).
    Turn on the Edge.
Start the “normal” Garmin Connect on your phone.
Let the Edge sync with GC.
Start the CG IQ app—it will restart from scratch.

If necessary, repeat the entire process a second time.

    To close an app:

I used to run into this problem allllllllllll the time. My solution was to create another profile on the garmin that contained no IQ data fields.

Flip to that profile, then run the updates. Works every time.

  • Thank you - will try!

  • Let me know if it works for you too

  • I just tried to install one of my datafields on a Edge 530. (first time installation)

Before  - I created a fake profile without IQs.

No chance to get rid of „installation in queue“ message. Did my workaround several times - no chance. I ended up to install via Garmin Express.

BUT: GE asked my to do a software update for the Edge 530.  After that done, I installed using GE without problems.

Maybe it also would have worked with GC-IQ then …?

  • Update for all reading:

The 530 I had and the 1050 I have now have slightly different interfaces within the CIQ mobile app. IIRC the 530 would show an install queue; the 1050 does not.

During the support chat I did while awaiting moderator approval here, the rep told me there's no way to force the install queue to install. From what I gathered during the interaction there are things he can see and things that have to happen on Garmin's servers before installs happen. I did try all of the suggestions here except creating a new profile.

I'll probably kick myself for thinking this, but I'm hopeful the main delay was simply the initial setup of the 1050 and a little more patience in the future will help.

I appreciate all the replies. Good luck with your devices!

  • You can enjoy a trouble-free life when using Garmin Express, both for new installations and version updates.

Garmin Connect IQ only works well for editing settings.
