Hello,
A few days ago, I rode the unsupported Istraland race (400 km on a bike, with 5600 m of elevation). I’m an amateur, and finishing such a race in a decent time is a big deal for me. Recording the route is one of the key “rewards” I look forward to.
But once again, the device failed. In the last 50 km, when taking a turn, the Garmin restarted itself—and then kept restarting over and over. I had to cancel navigation, which during a race is a huge problem. Yes, I had a backup on my phone, but trying to re-load the route on the Garmin just caused the same endless restart loop.
The result: lost time during the race, but much worse, I now cannot upload the activity file from that day at all.
I’d also like to add that with a device like the Edge 1050, which cost around 700–750 USD (18,000–19,000 CZK), problems with handling a long route really should not be happening. That day we rode the second part of the event, which was 245 km in one stretch. Are you telling me that Garmin’s top navigation device struggles with a 250 km route? Something is clearly wrong here.
For context:
-
The device was fully updated with the latest software.
-
I have experienced the same issue before with my Garmin watch.
-
It always happens on longer routes.
So my questions are: does Garmin have a solution for this? What exactly is the problem here? And should I start looking for a different device if I want to continue these kinds of activities?
This is not the first time this has happened. Problems like this keep coming back with different routes, and honestly, I’m starting to question whether I should ever buy another Garmin product. Reliability is the bare minimum I expect from a device like this, and right now it’s simply not there.
I would really appreciate help in fixing the file from this ride—but even more, I’d like to know what Garmin plans to do about these recurring issues.
Thank you.
P.S.:
-
The file cannot be synchronized via mobile or by connecting through PC.
-
Manual upload to Garmin’s web interface also fails with the message: “An error occurred during upload, please try again.”
-
The file size is 3.3 MB.
