28.xx - ability to postpone update not working

Garmin please acknowledge that if user says 'no' it means no.

Clicking 'later' on update prompt from previous 28.x version to 28.33 I expected that there will be no more attempts to update without prompt. Instead it automatically started to install updates as soon as I turned the screen off mid ride to save some battery. Think about people on multi day trips that won't be too happy about getting new bugs on their only mapping device.

Even if somehow a specific version will by bug free (I wish..) it's a good practice to give user control over such things.

  • +1 - I fully echo that request. Had the same "forced" update as I paused for a luch break which triggered the update that I delayed at the start earlier that day. And to make it perfekt I had the Sensor re-connect problem later that day which I have not gotten with the previous version. I do not want my device to decide when to update! The risk to get a surprise bug with any update is way to high at the moment to take any update without very carefull planning. On Top I try to do any Garmin update since the Forerunner 955 memory problems in cold conditions and NOT in full sun which with forced update I can not ensure.

  • On x40 devices selecting the back arrow (top-left of the “Now”/“Later” screen) will suspend the start of an update for an indeterminant period, might be days or weeks, don’t know what triggers it to display the screen again but you can just select the back again……, sorry but best I know, the old remove the GUPDATE file and replace with a dummy file no longer works.

  • THX for the feedback. This is how I knew it from the past as well.  But this time I selected No/Later and all looked normal, no update and I could use the Edge. But at the next "sleep" without another ask the device initiated the update. NO Warning NO obvious way to stop it. So it only delayed until sleep not until another ask or a selected manual update. Which is what I did not like.
