Sync edge 1050 is the worst

I know there's tons of topics on this already, but wth kinda less than mediocre stuff is this. Paying so much money for a device, but the sync to get ride on the GPS + sync completed activities is just a joke. Never had this with < €100 devices, how on earth is it possible that Garmin can not pull this off. Seriously considering selling all my Garmin stuff and start advising Wahoo to everyone. Any thoughts?

  • Yup, I had the Garmin Edge 1050 for all of a month and it was insanely unreliable. I could sync Komoot rides but some would randomly disappear, it also showed all Komoot activities including walks on a cycling device. I founded the most reliable way was to use the Komoot IQ app and start rides in that using the Garmin maps, but that means downloading routes in advance. It was just one big pain. And if you dared to edit a route, it would push a duplicate of the original with the same name, nice and easy to find the right one, not.  I still keep an eye on the forums as the Edge 1050 unit is really slick and the screen fabulous, but it looks like the syncing is no better so I’ll not swap back.

Bought the Wahoo Elemnt Ace - logged in to Komoot, all my cycle routes (no walks) downloaded instantly for offline use, awesome. Change a route slightly, no problem, it syncs the updates and shows the latest one. It has just works seamlessly with syncing across my platforms (Strava and Komoot)

The only slight pain from changing is recording routes on my Garmin watch AND wahoo, but as the watch is broadcasting heart rate it’s worth it.

  • I've posted the solution in all of the 'sync' posts.  The issue is not your device.  The issue is the crappy Connect app on your phone.  Disable the phone connection and only sync using WiFi.  Your sync problems will go away.

  • I agree the connection app is terrible. The Komoot/Strava sync is still rubbish (not two way) but I’d be interested if disabling the phone connection would stop all the duplication.

  • Are you using an iphone or an Android phone. I've had many Android phones and many Edge and it always works.

  • For me, I’m using an iPhone. I think my issue is more that I use knot for planning and storing routes which are synced with Garmin; it just becomes a mess of walks and cycle routes on a cycling computer with duplicates if I dare edit a ride
