Disable Firmware Auto-Update

How do you disable the 1050 from auto-updating firmware?

Last two updates my device has auto-updated AGAINST MY WISHES.

Previous time it was a bad bug ridden update I didn't want but couldn't stop my 1050 that just downloaded and installed it anway.

Today on setting out on ride I got the notification and I opted for "Remind Me Later", Got home, turned device off and 10 mins later it beeped and updated and no way for me to stop it happening.

It's my device, I paid good money for it and so for me to decide if and when I want to update not for Garmin to force their (sometimes bug ridden) software on my device against my wishes.

So how do I stop this happening? I can't see a disable auto-update option anywhere `9live every other computer device I have includes).

nb sometimes these devices are used on longer cycle tours (many days/months) where it is used daily and user cannot afford to allow Garmin to brick their device when it's crucially needed eg navigating in a foreign country). Garmin need to appreciate this.

Thanks

  • copying a dummy update file onto the Edge, at least it worked in the past with previous models.

  • At least for the Edge Explore 2 this trick does not work. The dummy update file will be replaced by a new GUPDATE.GSP file containing the new firmware. Also flagging the dummy update file as 'read only' does not help.

  • There is no way to really disable updates.

    All you can do is:
do not say „later“ - tap the return arrow on the top left!

This prevents from auto updates - but you will be asked again after some days, and you have to press the arrow again (and again…)
