Edge Data Field Varia Battery Life

Is there some reason why Garmin doesn't offer a data field to display Varia battery status on Edge? I see fields for all other sensor & light batteries, but the only ones I've been able to find for Varia are third-party creations....?

    They do. Any device paired as a light will report it's battery status using the Lights category Battery Status data field

    This data field will report the light with status of the lowest battery in the network. The individual battery status can be accessed via the light control widget in the control widget loop if you add that widget to the loop.

    Showing the light with the lowest battery has not been my experience- instead it shows UT800 battery level only, which is why I’m looking for another field to add to the data screen. Data field showed full battery on my last ride & halfway out I got critical battery warnings on my tail light & it ultimately ran out of battery- no indication at all on data field that it was low.

    You may also want to show the number of connected lights as well. That way you will know if both are being reported. Lights Connected

    Lights menu was only showing my headlight; removed & re-paired my taillight & now I see both in that menu, so presumably now the light battery field should function as you describe. That said, I was able to find a third party field that shows the taillight battery & overlays approaching vehicle speed when applicable...
