I have a pretty new Edge1050 on firmware 13.14 and today for the third time it lost the map (TopoActive Central Europe 2025.10), rendering it essentially useless for navigation.
A simple reinstall of the map via Garmin Express doesn't change anything.
To fix this, I have to
- connect the device to my computer
- with Garmin Express, delete the map (that is still shown as present on the device itself and in Garmin Express)
- at this point Garmin Express shows the device as connected, but when trying to manage the maps tells me I have to connect the device
- unconnected the device
- reconnect the device
- do a fresh install of the map
- at this point the map is (again) present on the device and actually usable
Having experienced this now three times within 10 weeks is completely unacceptable for me.
First there is the unreliability - when I go out for a ride I don't know whether I can depend on the device or not and secondly while I have a fast internet connection at home and re-downloading 8GB map data is manageable, this will not be the case when I'm at other places in the world in a hotel.
Before the Edge 1050 I owned an Edge 1030 with which using the maps was no problem for several years until some point in this spring when i had a similar effect with it.
Initially, I only put the Edge 1050 in standby when I didn't use it (as I have done with the Edge 1030 for years without trouble), but after the first time losing the maps, I switched to turning it off when not in use and doing a fresh start when using it, but obviously this doesn't help.
Does anyone else have this problem?
My research brought up nothing . . .
Any ideas to get to a stable, usable behavior of the device?
