I have lazily used my shoes for many rides, seeing the left offset around 10 and the right at about 4. I attempted to equalize the values; on today's ride I saw 10 and 7, after I moved the right shoe cleat very slightly toward the outside of the shoe. I'm using Sidi shoes, and positioning based on the markings printed on the sole of each shoe.
Should I be trying for equality, or trying to get closer to zero? Or should I just go by feel?
Some research online doesn't seem to answer any of these questions! Some people have written that moving their cleats to achieve a zero offset gave them knee pain, but they didn't usually say what offset values they were adjusting from.
Garmin tells you what the numbers mean, but they don't tell you what you should be aiming for.
I have a new pair of shoes, one half size longer than I've been using for the last 20 years or so. (I have been having pressure on my big toes, and I'm hoping a longer shoe will relieve that pressure.) I'm now sure how (or whether) I should adjust cleat position fore and aft compared to my older shoes. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
