WIFI doesn't connect until restarting device

At the end of a ride, my 1050 fails to connect to WIFI and sync. It just says "connecting" and never connects. If I restart the device it works fine. But it's very annoying having to restart the device at the end of every ride. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • My 1050 has just recently updated itself to S/W version 28.20 (wow - that seems quite a jump from 13.14) and, with both Phone sync and WiFi sync enabled, now seems to be able to reliably and quickly upload saved activities immediately when I return home, save the activity, and am in range of my home WiFi network for which the 1050 is configured (I assume its using WiFi to upload the activity).

Is anyone else seeing an improvement like this based on being updated to a later SW version?

  • Same problem connecting via wifi and quickly syncing after a ride for the last month or 2. If I turn 1050 off then back on, it connects and syncs.
    In USA, yes and yes,

UPDATE: just updated to 28.20 and will see if that fixes sync problem over next couple days.

  • Spain

    Yes

    Yes

This never worked reliably. I'm mostly relying on syncing with mobile.

I think my 1040 Solar is better.

  • Sw update 28.20 seems to have fixed this issue on my 1050 !!

  • I have the problem since the first firmware version of my Edge 1050. Also a replacement device didn‘t change anything. I was told it will be solved with the next firmware update, but 3 updates later it is not better (with the laast one even worse).

  • It worked for a few days after updating to 28.20 then stopped working again

  • Sadly, after about 15 days after updating to 28.20, it's the same for me. When attempting to re-connect to my WiFi, it now hangs at "Connecting" unless I re-enter password, and even after that the process permanently hangs at "Transfer in Progress".  Then, after the defined period, the device auto powers off, and if I then power it up, I'm back to the re-connect/re-enter password attempt.

    - seriously, how can such a simple thing as maintaining a WiFi config be so problematic on Garmin devices?!   This is something that shouldn't even have to be thought about by the user and it reflects really poorly on Garmin - this ongoing saga is the kind of thing I'd expect from a clueless new market entrant, not an established player with a respected brand to protect. There's been no Garmin response on this thread and no information provided anywhere else that I'm aware of to either guide users about managing this issue or about its resolution.

    This is not good enough.
