Coarse Point distance

In the past, Coarse Point distance would show the distance to the next turn.  Now is seems to only show distance to the end of the coase.  My routes are generated on RWGPS.  Any ideas on how to make this work again?

  • Check that Course Points are still enabled in your settings: (Menu>Navigation>Courses>[Load a Course]>Settings>Course Points=On/Off)

  • How are you getting the courses from RWGPS onto the Edge?

  • If you don‘t have integrated course points in RWGPS and exported as tcx:

-Garmin „Dist. to next“ shows only Endpoint if a course is loaded, but turn guidance is disabled
-Garmin „Dist. to next“ shows distance to next turn if a course is loaded and turn guidance is enabled

  • I pin the course in RWGPS and it is loaded automaticaly.  I will have to check the setting that PeterK_55 mentioned.  I had not looked at that.

  • I pin the course in RWGPS and it is loaded automaticaly

Pinning the course in RWGPS transfers it to Garmin Connect (if the connection is setup) which then does a “Send to device” so the course is available next sync. Now I could be wrong as I have not used GC in a while but in my prior experience any course transferred to GC or even just imported would have any imbedded Turn type Course Points stripped out as Garmin believes everyone loves its Turn Guidance. Custom course points ie non turn would survive. Is GC still doing this, would explain why you are not seeing the points, also in my limited experience the setting mentioned by PeterK does stop Course Point processing but only for that route, not others.

  • Interesting.  I would never have thought it would go through GC.  But you must be right As I see recent courses in GC.  Is there a way to load directly from RWGPS other than useing a cable and copying the file?

  • I pulled the fit file from the 1050 and compared it to the one from RWGPS and I can confirm that information has been removed from it!  So it appears you are correct.  Garmin is removing the RWGPS turn information

Perhaps these from forum guru  He is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I have limited experience with them as I just use the old fashion cable & copy to Newfiles when I am doing a set route otherwise just follow my nose?

  • GRouteLoader and RWGPS’s app will let you download load the routes directly. Using WiFi is preferable (BT is slow).

They both will include the course points (all of these use IQ to download the files).

BUT I have to my 1030+ off and on again to see them (I think this is a bug in the firmware since I don’t believe this was always necessary).

  • Unlike GRouteLoader the RWGPS CIQ App does not seem to support the 1050 and hasn’t been updated for 2 years, which is strange for a largish organisation, other priorities I guess? Thankfully we have yours.
