Return 1050 and get 1040???

I've had the 1050 for just a week, and have it functional, but after reading all the threads here and elsewhere about navigation issues, in particular going off route and not having the unit recalculate to get me back in the right direction, I'm wondering if I should return it and get a 1040, which right now is $300 cheaper than the 1050??  Would I avoid the navigation issues this way?  I've always just used my Forerunner for navigation without problems, but suddenly "need" a dedicated bike computer.

    I experience the same navigation bugs on both 1040 and 1050, so I would say no. I just want a steady bearing on mine when stationary, shouldn’t be to much to ask for. Had the same bug with 1040 when it entered the marked. Then it eventually got fixed, I bought a 1050, got the same bug, reverted to 1040, but then Garmin had reintroduced the same bug again on that too. Not very impressed

    Thanks, given that so many 1050 functions are now available on the 1040, and I don't care about Pay or the bell or the group stuff, I think I'll go with the 1040 and spend the extra $300 on something else.

    The 1050 is to me by far the best Garmin Edge. The display is in most light condistions much better readable than the dull 1050 display. The software of the 1050 is more responsive, and sensor connection (I have mostly Garmin sensors: Epix 2 heartrate, cadence, speed, remote control), but also SRAM ASX). Battery life is good, last easily several bike toiurs. Auto brightness also workshop very well. I haven’t had bad experiences with navigation, to my experience it isn’t worse than with 1040.

    Yes, there were issues with some updates, but overall I am very satisfied.

    I have a 1040 (now used on my wife's bike) and a 1050. Navigation pretty much works the same on both, and we don't have routing issues on either one.

    If "reading all the threads here" is making you paranoid, maybe you should stop. Why replace a product that's working for you with one you've never used simply because someone else had a problem? As the old saying goes, "...if it ain't broke don't fix it."

    I think a lot of the bugs reported in this forum can be fixed with firmware updates. If you have the budget for the 1050, that'll buy you a little more time until it's time to replace it. 

    I've been using a 1050 for a month or so now and while there are some nit picky things I've noticed, I think it's a solid unit. Easy to customize to your liking, and the voice prompts are handy, especially if you have them coming through earbuds or shokz. You won't get those on the 1040.
