Radar alert, wifi map update download questions

Hello, I just bough an Edge 1050 and am stumped by a couple of things...now doubt more stumps coming.

1.  I wear hearing aids; radar alert is too faint for me to reliable hear, and there is no apparent way to send the radar alerts to the phone and then to my aids.  All the other sensors do this just fine.  Is there a solution to this?  Without it the radar, for me, is not useful.  Would I experience the same thing with a 1040?

2.  I want to download the topoactive update, but I don't see a way to do this through Garmin Express, only over wifi, which is so slow it reminds me of dial up.  Solution?

I'm sure more stumps are coming over the horizon.

TIA

  • When I start GArmin connect on my laptop and click on the Edge 1050, Ican choose the maps and decide what to download.

What happens when you install the radar app on your phone and start the radar also on the phone ?

  • Thanks for the reply, Donald, the topoactive maps don't have an update option for Garmin Express or Connect update. I ended up doing the update overnight over wifi.

I guess you're suggesting the Varia app for use with the phone, I was hoping to avoid having to open and fiddle with two apps, and hope they will work alongside each other. I'll take a look at the app.  Seems like this shouldn't need a workaound, but here we are.

  • I've updated the topoactive maps to 2025.10 via Garmin Express by cable a few days ago..An update message just popped up in Garmin Express,I just followed the steps..The download speed from the Garmin server was pretty decent between 160-600Mbps.
