The Screen turns off for a second while riding

Hello,

As the title says, I’ve been experiencing an issue with the screen. While riding, the screen sometimes (apparently at random) goes off for a second and then turns back on.

I’ve already reset the device, but the issue still occurs. The device is connected to a cadence sensor and a dual heart rate monitor strap.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks in advance.

  • Same experience. Sometimes 3x in 1 hour, sometimes not for 4 hours. Seems randomly.

  • Sometimes twice in a half hour, sometimes once a week, sometimes none in a month.

    And just in case we can find something that is associated......I am connected to a SRAM derailleur (and Blip), Trek Carback radar, and my iPhone (although I think I noticed it before I bought the Trek Carback.)

  • I think part of the issue is that unless you are staring at it, it is probably happening more than you think. It is about 1-2 sec from start to end.

    I don’t think I have seen it yet while I have been on the trainer so now I am going to try and catch it. Might be a clue.

  • A few user have noted that this happens when some kind of shadow passes over the screen and I've had this happen to my device out on the road so it appears to suggest this is a software issue related to the ambient light sensor, which should be fixable with a firmware update. You would think.

  • Disabling auto-brightness seems to solve the problem; in the past two trainings I haven’t noticed it. As  said, the problem seems related with ambient-light sensor.

  • Disabling auto-brightness seems to solve the problem;

    Sorry, no. I never have auto-brightness on. Always fixed backlight. But every now and then a blackout.

  • Same here, always fixed brightnes and blackouts now and then.... I don't think it's auto-brightness.

  • Put me in the "unrelated to auto-brightness" category......I have had it on fixed brightness since the day I bought it......and have gotten an occasional screen blackout episode.  My guess is that because it is an intermittent problem, seemingly random....you may not have had any episodes YET....but time will tell.

  • I am on the latest beta and I haven't seen this error since then, but there is one additional factor: recently, my rides have been limited to short (30-minute) commutes to and from work.

    From what I remember, the screen used to black out during really long trips in the summer.

  • My rides are usually 30-60 minutes long and I have had a handful of screen blackening issues over about 3 or 4 months
