The Screen turns off for a second while riding

Hello,

As the title says, I’ve been experiencing an issue with the screen. While riding, the screen sometimes (apparently at random) goes off for a second and then turns back on.

I’ve already reset the device, but the issue still occurs. The device is connected to a cadence sensor and a dual heart rate monitor strap.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks in advance.

  • Dean, when I get a new Edge, I sell the two generation older unit, and keep the one generation older unit.  I ride with my 1040 in my pocket, on battery saver mode, and watch the 1050 on my out front mount.  Occasionally, I mount the External Battery Pack to charge the 1050 while I'm riding.  I could have bought 10 lipstick battery packs for the price of Garmin's battery pack, so I ought to get something for my wasted money....

It is usually interesting to see the differences between generations. My 1050 is registering more distance, while the 1040 shows very slightly longer ride time and usually more total ascent.

  • Thanks for your insight. I'm not going to ride with two Garmin computers. I run Cyclemeter on my iPhone as a backup, but it hasn't really mattered doing that for years. But I carry my iPhone anyway so it doesn't matter. When I buy an updated Garmin, my wife gets my previous one (e.g. my 1040) and I sell hers.

  • today made workout for 4h with 28.20b and this bug was presented several times. I think to write to Garmin for replacement the device, it's not what I expect from top-end expensive item. I can't understand what tech team do during several months when this bug was saw for the first time...

  • I have the same problem :(

  • Funny haven‘t got it since 20.17

    Knock on wood …

  • I live in Germany. The support claims that the screen problem was caused by third party software in my case Komoot. I deleted the app and nothing changed. I have the impression that the local support centers aren’t dealing with this problem issue. Customer is the blame, 3rd Parties are to blame. Reminds me of Microsoft.

  • I’m also from Germany. My 1050 was replaced after really short discussion with support, because it was brand new and was completely resetted after a infinite boot loop. Had only 3 rides since then, no problems so far.

  • i live also in germany, support replaced my 1050 without any discussion. Unfortunately it seems not to solve the problem, it is rare, but it happens from time to time. I don't have any third party apps on it, so i don't think that this is a problem of third party apps. Im unsure of what to do now, i think i wait until the cycling season is over and will write the support again, lets see what they will offer than.

  • Doesn't appear to be fixed in the latest firmware either.  I emailed product support and they asked for a video.  I'd need to setup my iPhone to record for an hour or so.  I might do it.

  • Unfortunately, I can confirm that. Today, the brand new 1050 that I got as a replacement from Garmin also had display dropouts again.
