The Screen turns off for a second while riding

Hello,

As the title says, I’ve been experiencing an issue with the screen. While riding, the screen sometimes (apparently at random) goes off for a second and then turns back on.

I’ve already reset the device, but the issue still occurs. The device is connected to a cadence sensor and a dual heart rate monitor strap.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks in advance.

  • I've been seeing this on every firmware revision since I bought the Edge 1050.

  • Got my 1050 exchanged by Garmin. the new one seems to work, i updated to beta 28.13 and did a two hours ride today without any flaws and screen turn offs. So it seems that this is a hardware problem, if you see this, the best way is to contact garmin support.

  • I've had my replacement 1050 device since last week. In the last four rides for a total of 87 miles I have not seen the screen blink. I'm running firmware 13.14. I do not participate in the beta program.

  • the same with me, every ride occurred (28.15b)

  • Thank you for the reports of screen flickering in this thread. We have received other reports of this and are currently looking into this internally. We recommend anyone experiencing this reach out to their local Support Team since we may need to explore options that are not available to us in the forums.

  • Yeah, this has been happening on my 1050 since I got it.  I just assumed it was some sort of artifact from the new screen or Android firmware whatever.  It's very brief.  TBH, I prefer the screen blanking out for a half-second every hour to Varia Error 0:9 hammering me every 15 minutes.

The screen vertically wipes the pixels to black, and then immediately come back on.  I was wondering if it could be related to the Edge 1050 not powering the screen down when it's finished charging.  This is surely going to burn the screen up at somepoint.

  • A way you can see if your‘s is flickering (mine does it!):

When you are working on your PC (writing emails, doing something, or similar), place the Edge on your desk near you with the power on and bright display. If it starts flickering at any point, you will notice it!

  • Yes, it happens to me too. This happens repeatedly every time I drive. I don't know what to do. Tirmware 28.16b.

  • I don't know what to do.

Simply contact Garmin support. My 1050 was replaced, like many others.

(As my MTB is broken at the moment, I unfortunately can't test whether the new one works without any problems).

  •  I did reach out to Customer Support and they replaced my 1050 with a brand new one. However, yesterday while riding the screen on the replacement did the same thing. It turned off and then back on.

Now what? Is this a hardware problem and they replaced one bad unit with another, or is it a firmware problem that's likely to get resolved. I'm just weeks away from the end of my one year warranty on August 19.
