There is a recent law in the USA that requires companies to make parts and tools available to customers who wish to repair the device they bought. I don't know if Garmin has adjusted their policies to comply with that law yet.
You don't say how your 1050 got its screen shattered, but the device comes with a tether to keep it from falling to the ground if it gets separated from the mount, and cases you can buy to provide more protection if you should drop the unit, for example. I definitely recommend using the tether; it saved me once....
