In many situations Edge 1050 pops up a banner at the bottom of the screen that won't disappear automatically. This banner covers portion of the map containing user current position and immediate surroundings.
In turn this destroys situational awareness - you don't know where you are and where your next turn is. This is a very bad UX and can be even dangerous in certain situations. This got progressively worse with firmware updates as more and more such warnings started to pop up.
Garmin - please understand that there are many situations where one can't click away a prompt especially that many of those just reappear immediately without end. In the terrain I'm riding to let go of handlebars means to stop and is unrealistic to expect. Same goes for heavy traffic I need to get trough every day.
Simple use case example:
As of 2023 (+/- a year) EU requires all new cars to have assisted driving systems. Part of that is implemented via onboard radar. This means each time such car passes me by Varia radar will display undismissable 0:9 error code covering bottom 1/3 of my map. Even if I make an effort and dismiss it next car will just trigger it back.
This makes navigation using Edge 1050 practically impossible. I don't know when I'll be robbed of my situational awareness next which adds to overall stress and high workload of driving in busy traffic.
What should happen to be considered good UX:
1. All notifications should have timeout and disappear automatically. I suspect some notifications have to stay for legal reason but try implement this as much as you can. This way if someone is completely overworked in their cockpit (traffic, flying down narrow mountain trail at speed, etc.) there's still a good chance to get position view back
2. Buttons on Edge Remote, electronic shifters and similar devices that would trigger a function on Edge 1050 should contextually dismiss notifications first. This way at least it's easy to just 'click away' the banner regardless if you can let go of the handlebars.
3. Map screen should reflow in a way that bottom of the map is not covered by the anything in any situation. Exactly as when you add data fields on the bottom of the screen. Same should happen on all other screens. This is what all competitor devices do in such cases. Smaller map with position still visible is much better than bigger map that does not show where you are.
