Garmin Edge 1050: should it automatically switch to the ClimbPro screen when climbing?

I recently purchased an Edge 1050. When I approach a climb, I'm usually on the map screen or another screen with my cadence and speed information. Then I see a mid-screen popup informing me that in 100/50/10 meters I'll start the climb. Once the climb begins, the popup displays a "Climb!" message and that's it.

The question I have is: should my Garmin 1050 automatically switch to the ClimbPro screen? Currently, I have to do this manually. All my settings are set to default.

  • There is a control option for that on the ClimbPro page under data screens for the activity profile you are using. Something like pop on start

  • That feature has been flakey lately. I've been using it since I had a 1040 when the feature was introduced. Since the most recent firmware update – and maybe before – it worked inconsistently for me, even within the same ride. I recently did a rather hilly Fondo and some of the climbs appeared, others did not.

  • Always works for me but I have not updated to 13.13

  • On my 1040 and 1050 with older firmware, when navigating a course, ClimbPro would tell me what number climb I was on, how many ‘climbs remained (“climb 5 of 12”), and the distance to the next climb.   This was really helpful when riding longer gravel races/rides.   I could study the course profile and know what climbs to be concerned about, and know when they were coming up.  I have checked my settings on my 1050 (upgraded to firmware 13.14 before my ride this evening). There doesn’t seem to be a way to activate this.  I really miss this.  Was this function eliminated?

Also , when riding and coming into a climb, two profiles of the climb display simultaneously— one on ClimbPro, and maybe one as a segment?   This is a relatively new phenomena.

  • Same here. I recently did a hilly Fondo, and had the map for it loaded and running. Only two climbs were listed. There should have been five or so. I think this feature is broken lately.

  • I generally swipe to the climbs list to see that info. It always says you’re on the next climb though (like 5/12 when you’ve just done the 4th). I find that a bit annoying but it’s clear from the green ticks which you have completed.

I’ve seen that double profile thing but it has always gone away for me once the climb starts.

  • You sure that’s not just the setting on how big a climb you want included?

  • Yep hit and miss with me

  • I had that set to show all climbs.

  • I had this issue too.  I solved it changing the Climb Pro setting to only turn on when 'navigating routes'.  Hope that helps.
