Route Recalculation Errors and Plethora of Maps

Since the 13.13 update and new Topo Maps, I've experienced route recalculation errors every time I deviate from a route.

I also see quite a few maps listed in my profile navigation screens. When I connect the Edge 1050 to my computer and look at Manage Maps in Garmin Express, it shows one base map, zero cycle maps, 1 point of interest map (Trailforks), and three TopoActive Maps (East, West, and Central Europe since I had removed all others).

Are the route errors occurring because of the maps I have selected? The Edge 1050 has a different list than what Express reports. The Edge still shows that the Cycle maps are installed, Climb Pro, etc. I'll attach photos from the Edge Map listing. Maybe someone knows what is needed, what can be removed, and how. Some of these maps do not seem to have an option to be removed via the Edge, only disabled.

  • Hi,

I have the same issue since V13.13.

When you deviate from the selected route, it says: "Route recalculation error"

Nothing will happen until you go back to your last waypoint.

  • I kept riding, and eventually it came back with 'Course found.'

  • When I installed my TropoActive maps it did not remove all the old (2024.10) DEM & GEOCODE "maps", had to manually delete them (after having worked out which ones they were), I also have an odd leftover Cycle Map listed in the "configure maps" but it seems to also be a DEM and fairly small, all very confusing. I don't use "Turn Guidence" so haven't faced a Error yet, all seems to be a bit more than the usual dogs breakfast of Edge updates?

  • The old maps don't show up in Garmin Express on the PC, only in the Navigation-Maps menu on the device. This is the case on the 1050 and my 1040 Solar. The 1040 has both 2024 and 2025 ClimbPro showing under Manage Maps, but only the Base map, Topo Maps, and Trailforks are listed on the PC.

I'd love to know where to go on the device to manually remove the old map files.

  • I also have the same plethora of maps and would love to know which are right/best ones for my 1050

  • The best thing to do would be to start with a clean slate

These instructions are just for the 1050.

Remove all the files from the Garmin\Maps folder

Remove all the files from the Garmin\SID folder

In the Garmin\SQL\Internal folder remove all files EXCEPT the MapRegionGrouping.db

After removing these files power the unit off and then back on.

Then connect it to a PC and using Garmin Express re-install the maps you want.

You could use the Map Manger on the Edge, but I think it would be quicker and easier to use Garmin Express.

  • Is it safe procedure?

  • Garmin express offers a different set of maps to Map Manager on the 1050. Not sure which is correct ones to reinstall.

  • Interesting, what does the Map manager offer.

  • CycleMap Europe, TopoActive Europe under Cycling Maps

Garmin DEM map Europe Central, Garmin DEM Map Europe West, Garmin Geocode Map Europe Central Garmin Geocode Map Europe West under Other Maps
