Firmware 13.13: 6 crashes during a 35km ride...

When I got the offer to update my Edge 1050 to firmware 13.13 I made the mistake to update Disappointed

During a 35km ride this evening I had 8 freezes: after about 5 km, 10 km,  20 km, 30km, 34 km, 34.2 km, when saving at 34.5 km and a minute later when I wanted to switch it off.

The device is with this firmware completly unuseable. The freeze happend on all screens and in all modes. Never had that before.

  • Same issue with my 1050. Does anybody know how to proceed a donwgrade and where I can download the 12.18 FW?

    BR,

    Holger

  • For me this seems to be related to firmware 13.13 in combination with an installed custom map. After removing the map, edge seems to work again without freezing.

  • The exact same thing happened to me today with the update to 13.13. The device froze several times today. As a result, I lost track data because I noticed it later. I had to reboot the device several times.

Before, with 12.18, it was running perfectly stable! Now it's complete, frustrating chaos! I want to downgrade!

  • Kudos to that,  I've just done the same,  removed custom maps.  So far so good in the last half hour.

  • I do agree here, when I uninstalled all custom maps, it seems to be stable. Just de-activating them doesn't do the job.

  • I had the same problem. On a 5-hour, 124-km ride, I had about 10 crashes. The GPS recording was useless...

  • Same here, complete freeze at mile 53, had been using an installed map from garmin connect but that course had ended. I decided to do an extra loop, that’s when the crash happened. Held in the power button which did a restart and the ride carried on from the reset. Only had it a few weeks, been perfect until this update!

  • I had firmware 12.18 and it was ok. Updated to 13.13 and it keeps crashing! Bad job garmin.

  • same here - on top of usual reboots that started with 12.x firmwares I have now constant freezes where device just locks up displaying map.

All that's needed is to deviate from track enough to cause alternate route calculation. Sometimes there will be 'out of memory' prompt at the bottom of the screen followed by a reboot which is the usual behavior since a few months. Sometimes it will just freeze, which is new.

My 1050 is fully stock without any connect IQ apps, just a few usual sensors - HR, power, cadence, speed.

  • I have the same problem frequently, but at irregular intervals. I've tried many things without success.

But today I may have found a solution: disabling all non-Garmin maps. I don't like the layout, but it hasn't crashed since...
