Mid-ride reboots are still a very annoying issue

I have the latest firmware (12.18) on my 1050 and have had mid-ride reboots 2 days in a row. I have ridden a number of times this season and haven't notice any reboots until now and then get 2 in a row. These were different routes and I was not following any course. I do have a couple of IQ datafields I use, maybe an issue with these? This is really annoying because the 1050 doesn't automatically restart collecting data after the reboot until I manually press the start button, so some amount of data (miles) is always lost.

  • Yes, it's super annoying. I posted about this several times, but the Garmin forums are just where good ideas go to die. The in-progress activity should automatically start if it was running before the crash. Such a simple thing to do, but Garmin is more interested in literal bell sounds from your unit.

  • Hi , thanks for your post. We've been investigating reports of erratic reboots while recording or when saving an activity.
I apologize that I do not have a specific fix at this time, I will post here when more info is available and we do expect to resolve these errors with an update.

ConnectIQ apps and data fields do require additional processing and Bluetooth connectivity, but it is tough to say for certain that these would contribute.

  • Hello! Yesterday I got a completely new device updated to a latest version and noticed random restarts while just browsing settings and set everything up, not even riden it outside jet Flushed hope that fix is one the way

  • Still getting these, on about 15-20% of my activities.

If your car didn't start 15% of the time, what would you think?

  • Firmware 13.14 is now available. I have that installed, will see if it works better.

  • After 2h 50km ride lockups seem to be at least partially fixed. But good old 'route calculation error' -> 'out of memory' -> reset with loss of activity bug is still there.

Going back to 11.24 for now. I very much prefer rock solid navigation and activity tracking 11.x line had and I'm willing to deal with visual bugs that were there. Sadly unless you have old version of komoot CIQ app backed up you won't be able to install it. Store version forces 1050 to be updated at least to 12.x.

On that note would it be possible to release latest stable 12.x gupdate.gcd file? This way I could have reasonably stable navigation and komoot.

  • Garmin have repeatedly been begged to provide downgrades even when people had bricked devices thanks to their 13.13 update but never have. Customers seem irrelevant and bad luck ... you chose Garmin and a consequence of that is they can brick your device and not do anything to help make it usable again ... not until they are ready.

  • @wes-m what version of firmware are you on when you see your most recent crashes. Is this 13.14?

  • I updated to 3.14 two days ago and it has crashed every ride since. Not a lot of data points, but previously it was crashing about once every couple days. The debug folder keeps the last 10 entries and they have dates of:

    May 10, 12, 15, 17, 18, 23, 24, 26, 27, and 28. That fits pretty well with what I remember for crashes.
