The year is now 2025, can we get a QWERTY keyboard?

I realize that when the keyboard for 2002 Nuvi was invented, the engineers in Olathe believed that keyboard technology would never progress past this "ABCDEF" interface...  But, the iPhone has had a QWERTY keyboard since 2007.  Even non-functional Wahoo devices have QWERTY technology now.

  • OK, Wahoo may have a QWERTY keyboard, but they also have this sitch going on with their flagship unit rn (photo from today via a guy I know, I don't use these non-functional potatoes).  This is why I stay on team Garmin despite the Edge 1050's Soviet tank inspired UI.  I'd rather type on the "ABCDEF" keyboard designed in 1998 than deal with this whole scene.

  • If they support QWERTY, other people will ask for AZERTY, QWERTZ or whatever: https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/8usnz2/latin_keyboard_layouts_by_country_in_europe/?rdt=51171

What does the keyboard of an iPhone haven to with the keyboard of a Garmin cycling computer.
How often do you use the keyboard on your Edge?

  • There are other countries in the world?  I was born in Ohio so I don’t know anything.  THANK YOU!

I guess you’re right.  Garmin probably can’t afford a localization team.  Shipping a touchscreen keyboard that’s different than every other touchscreen and physical keyboard makes sense now.  My 40 years of muscle memory is wrong.  It’s a symphony of failure.  Will you forgive me even though my existence is unforgivable?

  • All the time as creating waypoints etc off the device is atrocious.. For a company that created the small device GPS they have dropped the ball in nearly every area.. cant even upload and show way points on a device made just last year..

And yes, the "ABCD" Keyboard it woeful.. everyone else worked this out years ago. Even get a propper layout on the Apple watch and its tiny screen.

And they are now forcing subscriptions.. the last nail in the coffin.

  • I can type on a keyboard, thanks to 35+ years as a computer programmer.  However, this is NOT a keyboard, just a simple list of letters for limited input use.  I'm just fine with the a-z list, because I also learned the alphabet.

The amazon Fire Stick has many, many apps which require inputting an email address, password, etc.  It seems as if they are about equally divided between QWERTY and a thru z input lists.

  • It’s definitely a debate we should be having…. On the one hand, QWERTY has been used damn near universally by every keyboard and typewriter manufacturer since 1874.  On the other, Garmin, and one Amazon remote that doesn’t have a touchscreen, and literally NOBODY else uses ABCDEF.   I guess if you’re five years old and only know the alphabet, ABCDEF is clearly better.  How many toddlers are using the Edge 1050 though?

  • Hmm, the 737 still uses ABCDEF.  Maybe this is the future.

  • If I’m descending Alpe d’Huez at 100 km/h and trying navigate to a new cafe, I think ABCDEF might make more sense actshually.  You know what I just realized? I learned to touch type on this fighter.

  • Another vote for ABCDEF…
