Profiles for different bikes, power meters

Can I set up a different profile for more than one bike, and have the power meter for that bike work automatically, or do I have to delete the current power meter, and add and the new on every time I change bikes?  I have tried to research but I can't get a clear answer. Thanks for any help

  • Different sensors of different bikes are not linked to profiles. They all are grouped in the „sensor pool“ and have nothing to do with profiles.

If you „wake up“ the powermeter of a bike by turning the cranks, it will connect to your Edge no matter which profile was chosen and no matter how many powermeters are known by your Edge.

To ride different bikes using the same profile is not a problem for powermeter connection, but more for the kind of sport, because profiles are not tied to bikes but to the activity profile like Road, Mountainbike, Gravel and so on…

  • I have one profile per bike, not per type of activity. I've done it that way since I started using Garmin Edge about 12 years ago.

But you are correct. I just pair all the sensors of all the bikes (including power meters) and the ones that wake up – because I'm using that bike – are the ones active at the time for the profile (i.e. bike) I'm using.

  • Yeah.  It can be a little tricky, like if you move a bike waking up some of its sensors to get at the bike you want to use and those sensors connect to the Garmin.  In that case,  you can go into sensors on the Edge and turn a sensor off without having to un-pair it.  I think many agree that it would be good to have bike profiles with the bike's sensors attached to the bike profile.

  • No, I like it the way it is. It works just fine. One place for all the sensors is less confusing too. What you are suggesting would force me to pair the same device several times for each bike (I have four), such as my HRM and Varia Radar. Even if I touch a different bike than I'm using and it wakes something up, it disconnects again after I roll off on my ride.
