Wifi Sync and Firmware upgrade issues

I’ve been using the Garmin Edge 1050 and Edge 1040 for years, but I’ve consistently experienced WiFi connectivity issues with these devices. This problem has persisted for a long time, and many other users have reported similar issues, as seen in various community discussions.

From what I’ve gathered, Garmin Edge devices seem to struggle with more advanced WiFi setupsand only work reliably with very basic configurations. Several community posts suggest the same.

Today, after once again being frustrated by a stuck firmware update, I decided to simplify my guest network configuration as much as possible. In my Unifi multi-access-point setup, I made the following changes:

Disabled 5 GHz (forced 2.4 GHz only)

Disabled WPA3 (using WPA2 instead)

Disabled “BSS Transition”

Disabled Fast Roaming

After making these adjustments, my Edge devices finally connected successfully and I was able to update two devices without issues for the first time in years

It seems that Garmin’s WiFi implementation is quite limited and struggles with modern network optimizations. Are there any plans to improve the network stack of these devices or at least can we get some general troubleshooting guidance please?
