Public Beta 12.10 - Restarts fixed?

I have had mid-ride restarts on 2 different units since the 1050 was released. The last firmware had it every single ride without fail.
Still waiting to hear from Garmin on my formal ticket, so I went ahead and installed public beta 12.10.

In a 1hr ride today I didn't have any restarts, hopefully this is a good sign - did anyone have restarts with PB 12.10?

  • For some people like me they've been fixed in all 12.x firmwares. I had last crash while riding in late October, the singular crash while saving activity in early December. That's >2k km and few weeks of combined runtime without issues.

Others report there are consistent problems. My guess is your maps, apps and connected devices play a role.

My fix was a complete wipe with manually deleting all files, full reset by holding key combination on boot and not installing any CIQ apps besides MySmartLights. On top I use openfietslite extract (download.bbbike.org/.../) as a map which is limited to my country only (800mb). The only Garmin maps installed are DEM and base layer.

  • I had a restart mid-ride this morning... not sure temps have anything to do with mine, it was around 23 degrees celsius, I was descending about 60km/h at the time, so it would have had fresh air too :-)

  • I've had two "crashes" where I had to do a hard reset by holding the power button. Today the unit was dead because last night it never put itself to sleep after saving the activity.

I also had a crash after saving a ride but before it was successfully synchronized. The unit was then confused, and thought it had uploaded the ride when it had not. Eventually I had manually uploaded it.

I doubt it's related to your actual hardware... Kudos to Garmin for being willing to send you a replacement, though.
