Garmin edge 1050 reboots often, when in cold weather (below +2°C).

I know there have been a couple of discussions regarding reboots, however, I think the temperature issue deserves its own thread.

I bought my 1050 on December 27th, 2024 in Germany, when outdoor temperatures were cold but not below 0°C. My 1050 worked fine during setup and I could make several day to day activities from 3 to 15 kilometers lasting 5 to 60 minutes without any crashes or reboots. The problems startet as soon the weather conditions changed and were constantly around 0°C or lower.

Since then I had on almost all my rides problems. My 1050 turned off and startet to reboot by itself. After the reboot the current activity did not resume itself, I had to restart it using the right button or my remote control.

The reboot did not occur during very short trips. I think mainly because the 1050 was internally still warm enough to operate flawlessly. But on almost all rides, which last longer than about five minutes in cold weather, a reboot happened.

For example today. I took out my 1050 from my warm 20°C home, installed it on my bike and after 1.75 km of activitiy (approximately 5 minutes). After 3,8 km I had a stop, went inside a small warm place to eat something, and I had my 1050 close to my body, so it warmed up again for about 20 minutes. After leaving the place and continue the ride, the 1050 was again out in the cold and the next reboot happened 600 m (3 minutes) after I left the warm place. After this reboot nothing happened for the next 4 minutes until I went with my 1050 on body into a shopping center. The last part of the ride to my home was around 800 m (3 min) long during which nothing happened.

So, a soon weather conditions turn to freezing temperatures, my 1050 starts to show reboots. During another 10 km ride at -2°C I had four reboots. In the first 1,5 weeks with temperatures almost always above 0°C I had not reboots at all during a ride.

Are there other 1050 users, who observe the same issues? Had Garmin already investigated the problem and found a solution, which can be provided to the users in a short time?

It is not really acceptable that this *outdoor* device cannot operate stable in cold weather conditions. Garmin itself specified operating temperatures between -20°C and 60°C, so under the above described conditions my 1050 should work fine.

  • I have the same issue regardless of the weather... reboots. Contacted Garmin support over the phone, then was asked to send log files, etc.. still waiting to hear a response.

  • Perhaps more evidence to temperture dependant reboots:

I made the same ride as the day before. Yesterday I had no reboots.

Today I left the 1050 outside on my bike, when I entered the shopping mall for about 14 minutes. During that time the temperature measured by the 1050 had fallen from 13°C to 7°C. Real outside temperature was 0°C. After leaving the shopping mall, the 1050 started to show incorrect position and rebooted afterwards.

Yesterday, I made the same ride, at about the same time and weather conditions. I took the 1050 with me into the shopping mall so that it could warm up: no reboot.

To illustrate the situation, here is an image of my track:
