Garmin Charge Power Pack

When the Edge 1050 is directly connected to Garmin Charge Power Pack using the Time Trial Mount I cannot start an activity - the "play/pause" button becomes unresponsive. The unit is not frozen as the touchscreen still works. A hard reset while connected to the external battery allows the "play/pause" button to become usable however this is not an ideal fix.

Many thanks,

Tim

  • I own the Garmin External Battery Pack (that's the name printed on the box), and have used it at least once to recharge the 1050.  I didn't experience any problems with operation of the 1050.  I installed the battery pack first, then the 1050 on the out front mount.  When the battery pack and the 1050 came in contact with each other, the 1050 powered on, and I was good to go.  I've no idea whether the order I used is "correct".  It just seemed the easiest order to me.

I've also used the battery pack with Edge 1030, 1030 Plus, and 1040 units, without any problems I can recall.

The worst problem with the battery pack is its ridiculous price, which has actually gone up since I bought one of the first ones!  You could easily buy ten lipstick charge packs for the price.  (I own a Jackery unit with 3350mAh capacity, and I used to affix it to my stem with electrical tape, back when the Edge units were questionable for long rides. I think it cost something like $11.  Jackery seems to be out of that business, but I see Anker and other brand units that have enough juice to recharge your phone battery.)
