Zwift support

I have a question regarding syncing training effect from Zwift indoor riding sessions to Edge 1050 and Garmin Connect in general.

I'm using Stages SB20 witch has power, cadence and speed sensors together with Coros HRM strap so I should have all relevant metrics. I have Zwift portion set up correctly and rides appear in Garmin Connect and Edge history widget. Power, HR, cadence and all other parameters are charted as you'd expect. Edge is the only device on my connect account and set as primary training device.

But my training monitoring shows nothing. I've spent last 3 weeks pushing hard on Zwift and I get zero load, all rest days and 'detraining' status.

According to this: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/06/training-trainerroad-sufferfest.html Edge should automatically calculate metrics after syncing Zwift rides. It does not. What I'm doing wrong? Is this a bug?

  • I can only speak for the Tacx Desktop app. I assume that it is the same procedure as for training with Zwift.

When I train on my trainer (NEO), my trainer is connected (FE) to my laptop via BT, which runs the Tacx Desctop app. I use a heart belt and a Stages left-only power meter, which are also connected to my laptop via BT. (Stages would not be necessary because the trainer also transmits power).

After saving the training, all data is transferred to Garmin Connect. All data is visible there. However, none of this data has any influence on the personal statistics!

To update the statistics and keep them up to date, you also have to record your training on the Edge 1050! And in parallel!

What I do: In addition to the aforementioned BT connection with my laptop, I connect my trainer (NEO) to my Edge as sensors via ANT+ only. I have connected my heart rate belt, my NEO as a speed sensor and my Stages as a power meter - all via ANT+.

After you finish your workout, you save on both devices - laptop and Edge. Now you'll see that your stats are updated in GC. But you'll also see that there are now 2 workouts saved in your stats. You need to delete one of them. I delete the activity recorded with the Edge and leave the TDA saved on Connect.

Yes, it's complicated, and it's incomprehensible that Garmin doesn't offer its own desktop app for updating the statistics. But that's the way it is...

  • to confirm - I record on the Edge on top of Zwift and delete the edge tracking data afterwards? This sounds funny since supposedly additional data edge captures are then gone.

What I'm supposed to do about Edge insisting on controlling my resistance? Trainer gets confused and Zwift starts complaining.

From what I've found for other Garmin devices people say to delete or not save at all Zwift copy and keep copy recorded on Garmin device. I'm pretty confused.

Also then why DC Rainmaker guy is creating article claiming that it just works? As usual with Garmin ecosystem a lot of questions and very little answers...

  • I cannot comment DCR - I can only talk about my experience…

to confirm - I record on the Edge on top of Zwift and delete the edge tracking data afterwards?

    Yes!

This sounds funny since supposedly additional data edge captures are then gone.

No, they are not gone. You can delete the Edge recorded activity. This has no effect on the updated stats.

What I'm supposed to do about Edge insisting on controlling my resistance? Trainer gets confused and Zwift starts complaining.

This is not a problem because you are not allowed to connect your Edge as a trainer. Only search for a speed/cadence sensor on your Edge and a power sensor. You will find the trainer as a speed/cadence sensor and as a power sensor. Only connect these sensors. (Not the trainer!)

  • you are not allowed to connect your Edge as a trainer

This is the missing link. Thanks!

Edge 1050 indoor cycling profile beelined me to add my trainer as a trainer and it caused the problem.
