Garmin 1050 does not read gpx files

Greetings, everyone! Please advise me on this issue. I switched from Garmin 830 to Garmin 1050 and found this problem. Previously on Garmin 830 I directly transferred the track to the device and it was displayed in the list of distances. On the Garmin 1050 everything is different. If I put the gpx file in the courses folder, Garmin does not see the file as a distance. If you put it in the NewFiles folder, Garmin converts it to a fit file and moves it to the courses folder. I don't like the fit file as it loses course detail, there are a lot of missed points and this file is suitable only for more or less straight roads. Is there any way to make Garmin 1050 not convert gpx to fit and show gpx on the map?

    None of the Garmins Edges (all the way back to the ancient 800) would be able to use GPX files in \Garmin\Courses. Only fit files could work.

    This is contrary to my experience with other Edges (I don't have a 1050). It would be interesting to see the two files.

    You should place the .gpx file in the ..\Garmin\NewFiles folder. The device converts the .gpx to .fit and places it in the ..\Garmin\courses folder as a Course. The .gpx may contain a track or a route, the result after import is always a Course, selectable from the Courses menu.

    The Edges don’t deal with “route” (files with just waypoints) properly.

    My Edge Explore 2 digests .gpx files with either a track or a route properly. The 1050 will behave similar.
    Track or Route created in Basecamp or Mapsource, saved as .gpx and transferred to ..\Garmin\Newfiles. Thats my workflow.

    There isn’t much of a a reason they shouldn’t be able to use route files. The older units “digest” them fine but they aren’t usable.

    Very strange. I remember exactly that all I had to do was copy the gpx file to a folder on the Garmin and it was definitely not the NewFiles folder. That said, the Garmin 830 saw the track and it was the most detailed track possible. Examples of poor detailing on 1050 I will send you later.

    This is a classic example of how memory can play tricks on us Rofl

    At least since Edge 800 (when I started to use Edge devices), the NewFiles folder was to be adressed - like @dpawlik explained.

    A possible reason for your rememberance might be, that Garmin Basecamp exported gpx files to a folder named /GPX when directly exported to an Edge device. (I don‘t know if this bug still exists). But this was a dead end folder, which was not read by the Edge devices.
