Garmin Edge 1050 (10.19 Firmware) - Annoying Navigation Route Creator Bug/Issue

Hi there,

I wanted to post about a strange and annoying bug issue I’ve been experiencing with the Garmin Edge 1050 GPS navigation computer device. Sometimes when I go into Navigation > Courses > Plus Button > Course Creator, and then create a route to a particular city. It would display an infinite loading circle loading, and it also won’t save the route. It also doesn’t allow to add the options of looping back to start, or out and back. All you can do is exit out and perhaps try again

It would only then work correctly in creating a route, if I were to restart the device a couple of times. It happens very randomly. I am currently on the latest firmware 10.19, which was released a good two months ago now

I believe that all of the map data should be loading up a lot faster while scrolling around the entire map, it’s a little slow on displaying everything, and the route calculation waiting time could also be improved

Other than that, Edge 1050 works lovely, apart from this odd issue which I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced. I’m especially impressed with the UI menu performance, and boot startup/shutdown times, clearly that new powerful processor is exceptional to have in this new device. The sharp, bright, and vibrant display is also really nice

I believe a new firmware (v11.17) is upcoming for the Edge 1050 soon, which will fix a whole bunch of bugs and crash issues, so let’s hope it fixes this one too

  • Would just to point out on here that the issues I’ve described here has been taken care of with the newly released 11.24 firmware, so good work to Garmin

Go ahead and update your Edge 1050 devices to it because it seems to be a much more polished firmware compared to the previous one, as everything is much more snappy, including browsing around the map, and create a route/route trip creation actually works as intended now, and doesn’t bug out. It takes far less time to create those three random routes now. Creating a route to a particular city, regardless of distance, takes just ten seconds. Starting up and shutting down the device is much faster. Navigating throughout menus is very quick

There should also be a lot less crashes, sudden reboots and shutdowns. It’s possible that there are a lot more fixes and performance improvements in this new firmware that Garmin haven’t mentioned in the changelog
