Navigating a course in the 1050 is unusable

When a long 70 mile course is loaded it slows the map drawing time to 2-3 minutes during which time the white map page is unresponsive until the map details are drawn. Then seemingly randomly a right turn is indicated while the map shows a left turn is coming up. Then a U turn is indicated when the map shows the course ahead to be a straight road.

The map drawing speed improves to the same speed as when no course is being followed when there is only a few miles left on the course.

The map feature to route to the start while following a course is not usable as it never routes the best course back to start when other than follow existing route is selected.

It is clear why other manufacturers of similar bike computers can successfully compete against Garmin bike computers

  • Did anyone find a solution to this, MTB rides with many turns basically render the 1050 unresponsive whilst it's navigating on the map screen. It's unusable whilst it's refreshing the map. How can none of the reviews mentioned this ??, I wouldn't have purchased a 1050 if I had known it was this bad !, surely it must be software fix !!!

  • The unusably slow map redraw while following a route or on a segment was communicated to Garmin in a bug report in August 2024. There has been 4 software releases since but none have fixed this slow map problem. The Garmin suggested mitigation is to only have the US map loaded but have found this to make no difference. It is a very poor reflection on the technical/software skills of the Garmin employees and management responsible for this product

  • I am the UK and as far as I can tell only have cycle map Europe installed, not sure what I can do with that ?, very disappointed with this so far Disappointed

  • Maybe installing the Great Britain & Ireland part of the OpenFietsMap EU from www.openfietsmap.nl might help?
Disable all maps except the Basemap and the OFM map.
