Wi-Fi Sync Issues Since 10.18

I've been on all the beta firmwares, and since the 10.18 upgrade none of my rides uploaded. Had to turn off wifi and do a bluetooth sync. Removed the network and re-added, same problem. If I go to system -> about -> check for updates, it says "Transfer already in progress", but of course nothing is happening on the device. In connected features / wifi, "Wi-Fi Sync" says "connecting" - but never connects.

Checked the leases on my router, and it seems that when the unit wakes up from sleep, it's isn't renewing the lease, but wifi isn't working. A full power off / power on is required to fix wifi and sync again.

  • I am having the same problem!

    Please help

  • This sounds like an issue with the WiFi certificate.  I had a similar issue where I was on a beta firmware and skipped several beta firmwares to a production firmware.  This caused the WiFi to never connect.  I contacted Garmin and they acknowledged it as a bug in their production firmware.  A new release was put out and mine worked after updating to the latest release.  This problem doesn't get reported often because most people don't skip many versions of updates.  The issue only affects those who jumps several firmware versions.  Very annoying.

  • Wifi certificate? No, the Edge uses WPA with a PSK, not TLS.

This issue still happens even with the latest firmware. I have to fully power down the unit and power back up for the wifi to work again.

  • Same issue. Stop my rides when I get home. Excellent WiFi where I park my bike. Never uploads unless I power cycle the unit.

  • I'm on 10.24 and am having the issue with wi-fi. Did anybody figure out a way to fix this? It was working fine until I brought the unit inside and hooked it up to Garmin Express to update the maps. I guess it updated the OS version to and now wi-fi updates don't happen when I end my ride. Should have left it alone while it was working I guess.

  • Make sure you don't skip a version of OS when updating the OS.  Garmin doesn't make it easy when updating the OS.  When you skip one more more versions of OS, bad things happen. The remedy is to revert back to an old version OS, then update the OS to ALL newer versions one at a time.  Crazy, I know.

  • How do I revert back to an older version?

Something screwy is going with wifi. When I go to the wifi menu it says "connecting" but never does. Then I and click on the network and enter the password then it says it connected. But if I then hit sync Wi-Fi sync it says "sync failed" and thats the end of the road until I re-enter the password.

Would it be worth it to do a factory reset. I upgraded from an Edge 830 so I could do that again and get all of my profiles back so it isn't too painful like it used to be in the old days.

If that doesn't work I'll call Garmin. I really need this feature to work.

  • I had the same issue on a 1030 Plus.  Garmin wasn't aware of it because only a small portion of people don't update the OS serially, and the problem only affects a very small number of people.  I finally convinced them to look into it and they confirmed it was a software bug (WiFi certificate).  They fixed the bug and released a new update.  I'm 99.9% sure this is the same issue, but now on a 1050.  The temporary fix (only works on your unit and everyone else who has the same problem will continue to suffer from it) is to revert back to an older version and then update to newer versions serially, without skipping a version.  You'll have to Google for the procedure.  The long-term fix is to let Garmin be aware of the issue, and mention 'WiFi certificate' bug to them.

On a side note, with my 1030 Plus I NEVER upload rides via my phone, only WiFi.  This is because the Garmin Connect app on the phone is buggy, and very often my rides won't upload on the first try.  I leave the phone disabled under connected features on the Edge device.  When I'm traveling sometimes I cannot use a hotel WiFi (those pesky ones that require both a password AND a room number/name).  In those cases I enable a hotspot from my phone and use that to upload my rides.  WiFi works 100% of the time.

  • I can find no way to revert the firmware so I called Garmin. Went through all the troubleshooting steps (which I had already done several times) so they created a case file. I reset the device to factory but that didn't help. Had to send my Garmin file to them via Garmin Express and will have to wait for their response. At least the 1050 is still working other than the Wi-Fi issue.
